In Other Worlds by Liam Young

In Other Worlds Barbican Liam Young

What if the future isn’t something that happens to us, but something that we can collectively imagine? This summer, Barbican Immersive presents In Other Worlds, the first major UK solo exhibition experience created with BAFTA-nominated Director, Artist, and speculative Architect Liam Young. Spanning three locations within the Barbican Centre, the exhibition transforms the Silk Street Entrance, The Curve Gallery and Car Park 5 into a sequence of cinematic future provocations, where world-building, fiction, design and climate science collide.

Created in collaboration with leading voices from film, television, literature and science, In Other Worlds unfolds through an array of bold and wondrous films presented on LED walls and as huge-scale projections, as well as audio stories, set design, costumes, movie miniatures, graphic narratives and speculative artefacts. This exhibition invites visitors to step into the imagined worlds of Young and his collaborators, exploring the possibilities and challenges of what the future could hold.

Featured collaborators for the audio stories including writer Jane Wu (Executive Producer/Director of Netflix’s Blue Eye Samurai), American screenwriter and director Lisa Joy (Westworld, Fallout), science-fiction authors Kim Stanley Robinson (author of The Ministry for the Future) and Chen Qiufan (AI 2041), Environmental Social Scientist Holly Jean Buck, Claire Coleman (Terra Nullius) and AI scholar and artist Kate Crawford (Atlas of AI), present engaging character narratives, to immerse visitors into the lives of the inhabitants of these future possible worlds.

Accompanied by Young’s illustrated narratives, these stories written for each world are voiced by an exciting ensemble of actors, scientists and activists, including Maxine Peake, Diego Luna, Jeffrey Wright and Adam Young, Dame Dr Maggie Aderin, Richard Ayoade, Alma Pöysti, Denise Gough, and Natasha Wanganeen.

As visitors journey through the exhibition, fragments of graphic novels are displayed to further transport visitors into each world unfolding around them. These depict hidden stories, tools, relics, figures and fragments of lives that might be lived.

Lab Rats Collective presents Fish in a Kettle

May252026
May302026
Location: Fabric Studios, Liverpool
Fish in a Kettle Liverpool

It takes place in Liverpool, battered by waves and engulfed by tides, at a gathering where fish, people, and everything in between collide. In this devised show, audience members move through the party and choose who to follow, watching a series of shifting predictions as the hosts explore what is probable and what is possible in the future. This strange and voyeuristic experience floats between theatre, scientific research and the voices of Merseyside, while challenging audiences to hold darkness and hope at the same time.

The show imagines the city of Liverpool, either boiling or slowly being swallowed by the sea in an urgent reckoning with the future. It was developed in collaboration with marine scientist Dr Marta Payo Payo from the National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool, whose research shapes the work. Fish in a Kettle questions the audience’s complicity by examining our denial, acceptance, and response. It promises a sensory experience, playing with movement-based imagery and sound. Audiences experience different versions of the future from inside the same night. The party is uncomfortable and seductive, while asking: Will we sink or swim?

180 Studios announces the new exhibition, VISIONS OF 2034, from GENER8ION, the collaborative project of film director Romain Gavras and producer Surkin, opening this summer from 12 June to 31 July 2026.

The exhibition, which features the premieres of seven new and previously unseen short films, coincides with the launch of GENER8ION’s brand-new album, ‘Love & Tears’, released on 12 June.

Cyrano de Bergerac takes to the stage at the Noël Coward Theatre

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s critically acclaimed production of Cyrano de Bergerac transfers to the West End. Adrian Lester reprises his role as Cyrano alongside Susannah Fielding as Roxane and Levi Brown as Christian. Director Simon Evans co-adapts this thrilling new version with Debris Stevenson, bringing new life to Edmond Rostand’s lyrical tale of love and lies, longing and disguise.

Poet, soldier and philosopher. Cyrano de Bergerac burns with brilliance. He’s fiercely funny and urgently romantic – but behind the veil of wit is one large problem: his nose. Haunted by doubts and too proud to beg, he watches from the shadows as Roxane – bold, beautiful and seemingly unreachable – falls for another man, Christian. But this handsome, tongue-tied young suitor knows his only hope of charming Roxane is to seduce her with words. And only one person can help…

Hot Pot at Playhouse East

Following four university friends reuniting at a hot pot restaurant after the Covid pandemic, Hot Pot at Playhouse East begins with easy laughter and then slowly settles into a more searching conversation that honours the complexity of friendship, identity and survival.

Drawing on the lived experiences of East Asian perspectives, the play explores gay identity with honesty and nuance against a cultural backdrop that can be hostile or indifferent. Hot Pot is the debut production from new theatre company Auka Productions, founded by Struan Davidson and Windson Liong.

Hongwei Bao, writer, said, “Hot Pot is a play about friendship, relationship and love. It is about how some of these significant relationships have changed over time, and how others remain strong ties in our lives. It is also a play about dreams, ambitions, and the joys and pains of growing up; about how one can live an authentic life despite societal pressures and others’ expectations. It is a story that everyone can relate to”.

Miraculous King's Head Theatre

Miraculous opens at the King’s Head Theatre this June.

“Imagine like having the power to create the entire world with a handful of sentences, or remotely impregnate a fourteen-year-old virgin, or parting a sea, or any of those like massive, real things, and then like, retiring.”

When a youth pastor preoccupied with mercy and a teenager hungry for justice are thrust into the same room, will their fellowship end in communion or collision?

In Miraculous, it’s Josh (LUKE STILES), a high schooler brimming with arrogance, insecurity, and theological angst, versus Paul (DIEGO ZOZAYA), a devout young father wrestling with the challenges of spiritual leadership. Over a week of mentorship meetings at a Christian sleep-away camp, they fight to stress-test their faith. When their cage match about sex, sin, and salvation asks whether grace has limits, who breaks first?

Olivier Nominee Toby Clarke directs Luke Stiles’ debut play, Miraculous — “a devastating piece of work” (The Peg) — a Wiggle Room Production produced by Brock Looser.

Why I Stuck a Flare Up My Ar*e for England at the Garrick Theatre for one night only!

Why I Stuck a Flare Up My Ar*e for England at the Garrick Theatre

Inspired by the England fan who went viral for putting a lit flare in his buttocks before the European Football Championships Final in 2021, Why I Stuck A Flare Up My Ar*e for England tells the story of die-hard football fanatic Billy, who eats, sleeps, and breathes the sport alongside his best mate Adam. But what begins as a shared passion quickly spirals into something more dangerous when they fall in with a new crowd. Looking at the darker underbelly of football culture, what follows is a funny, raw and honest look at tribalism, toxic masculinity, and the desperate search for a place to belong, timely ahead of the Men’s Football World Cup and the fifth anniversary of the European Football Championships.

Why I Stuck A Flare Up My Ar*e for England  premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2023 and returned in 2024 and 2025 for successive sell-out runs. The show has since toured across the UK, including London runs at Southwark Playhouse, Wiltons Music Hall and Underbelly, as well as internationally in Australia, winning the Holden Street Theatres Award, the Best Theatre & Physical Theatre Award at Adelaide Fringe, Best Theatre & Performance at Perth Fringe World, and an Offie Award. Football icon Chris Kamara and TV presenter Ben Shephard have lent their voices to the show as radio presenters. The play was published by Methuen Drama in 2025. Following the final date at the Garrick, the show will travel to New York as part of Soho Playhouse’s Fringe Encore Series from 8-18 July.

Alex and director Sean Turner said, “We’re beyond thrilled to announce that our little one-man football show, which previewed at the Old Red Lion pub theatre before playing a 50-seater hotel conference room at the Edinburgh Fringe back in 2023, has made it to the West End. It genuinely feels like a dream come true. We’re so thankful to everyone who has supported, worked on and been part of the show over the last few years. Finishing the show in the West End and then Off-Broadway alongside the World Cup was never part of the plan, and we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity. We can’t wait to set off one final flare’’

Between the Heartbeats – a celebration of Black Queer Joy

Jun282026
Location: King's Head Theatre, London
Between the Heartbeats King's Head Theatre

This Pride season, No Names Creatives present Between the Heartbeats, a powerful live concert celebrating the brilliance, resilience and artistry of Black queer performers in the West End.

Taking place at King’s Head Theatre, the event brings together a standout lineup of LGBTQ+ artists and allies for an evening of explosive vocals, intimate storytelling and electrifying live performance. More than a concert, Between the Heartbeats is a bold celebration of identity, artistry and community, creating space for artists who refuse to be softened, sidelined or reduced to footnotes, instead taking centre stage unapologetically.

The concert will now also feature acclaimed West End performer Lauren Azania alongside Cameron Drews and Christopher Patten-Walker. The production will additionally introduce two newly graduated performers making their Pride concert debut, sharing the stage with established theatre talent in a celebration of emerging Black queer artistry and the next generation of performers.

At a time when Pride risks being reduced to corporate branding and when trans communities are facing a renewed wave of hostility and political scrutiny, Between the Heartbeats reclaims space for the voices that have always shaped queer culture. Celebrating legacy, resistance, survival, pleasure and power, the concert reminds audiences that Black queer stories are not marginal or temporary; they are foundational.

A percentage of ticket sales will be donated to a Black LGBTQ+ charity supporting vital work for Black LGBTQ+ communities.

Through music and performance, the event also reflects on an industry that has long profited from Black creativity while marginalising Black queer bodies, while imagining a future where those voices are celebrated, amplified and free.

Emmanuel Akwafo said, “Queer visibility has expanded in ways we could only dream of a decade ago, but at the same time, we’re witnessing an alarming rise in hostility, particularly toward trans communities. That tension is exactly why spaces like this matter. Pride was never meant to be comfortable; it began as resistance.

When I think about our history, I think of figures like Marsha P. Johnson who refused to accept injustice. I want to honour that legacy by showing up for my community loudly, proudly and without apology.”

Born of defiance, Pride in London dates back to 1972, when approximately 2,000 people took to the streets for the UK’s first official Gay Pride Rally. Pride in London 2026 will once again transform the capital’s most iconic squares, streets and spaces into a city-wide festival of performance, protest, and community.

From the high-energy atmosphere of the Main Stage in Trafalgar Square to the vital grassroots activism of the Trans and Non-Binary Stage in Soho Square, each area is curated to honour our intersectional community.

Whether you are experiencing the rich cultural showcase of the Global Majority Stage in Golden Square, celebrating the incredible talent of the Women’s Stage in Leicester Square, or enjoying the inclusive Family Area, these spaces offer a platform for every voice.

Henry Patterson brings Broadway Maybe to life in one-night-only PizzaExpress Live Soho

One to watch, Henry Patterson returns to the London stage this summer for a one-night-only concert at the iconic PizzaExpress Live Soho, marking the release of his debut album Broadway Maybe. Following sold-out performances in London and New York, Patterson brings his signature jazz-infused reinterpretations of musical theatre back to the capital for this special evening at one of the city’s most celebrated intimate live music venues. The concert will feature songs from Broadway Maybe, performed live alongside special guest vocalist Roxy Yarnold, who has toured with Boy George & Culture Club as well as Gloria Gaynor, and backed by the acclaimed The Sam Every Big Band, led by drummer Sam Every, who performed on the album and regularly sells out concerts across the UK.

Recorded at the Abbey Road Studios and released on 15th May 2026 to rave reviews, Broadway Maybe is a concept album that reimagines classic musical theatre repertoire through a contemporary jazz lens. Framed around the emotional journey of the audition room, the album explores themes of ambition, identity and resilience through songs from A Chorus Line, West Side Story and Les Misérables.

Henry first came to public attention as a child entrepreneur, writing and publishing his first book at age 9. This led to a global speaking tour and collaboration with the likes of Cameron Mackintosh and Ariana Debose. In recent years, Patterson has established himself as a distinctive new voice in the world of theatre and entertainment, having performed internationally and appearing on BBC Americast with his viral musical parodies. What started as playful reinterpretations has evolved into a defining artistic identity, using jazz to unlock musical theatre for people who might never have thought it was for them. His recent shows have become known for their jazz reinterpretations of musical theatre classics, attracting both theatre audiences and listeners new to the genre.

Henry Patterson comments, It’s been a longstanding dream of mine to perform a show with a big band, so to get to perform the full setlist from my album Broadway Maybe with a totally new sound is a huge moment! We’re going to be bringing that classic Manhattan jazz club energy to Soho for one night only.
