Prepare for the second coming! Dogma is returning to cinemas to mark its 25th Anniversary

Vertigo Releasing has announced the long-awaited return of Kevin Smith’s cult classic Dogma to UK and Irish cinemas on 7th November in a heavenly 4K restoration to mark its 25th anniversary.

Dogma premiered Out of Competition at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival and returned to the Croisette in 2025 as part of the prestigious Cannes Classics section. Now the gloriously remastered Dogma is set to return to cinemas in the UK and Ireland for the first time in decades. Smith’s Dogma was, and still is, a sharp, irreverent religious satire that sparked conversation, controversy, and cult fandom around the world with an all-star cast that featured Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino, Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek, Bud Cort, Kevin Smith, Chris Rock, and George Carlin. Now, after a long wait, prepare thyself for the second coming!

Dogma: Resurrected reintroduces audiences to the story of Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon), two banished angels who seek to exploit a theological loophole and return to Heaven – thereby inadvertently nullifying all of existence. A reluctant abortion clinic worker, Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), is tasked with stopping them, guided by a heavenly host that includes the last scion of Christ, a muse, a pair of prophets, and the voice of God.

Speaking ahead of the resurrection, director Kevin Smith said, “I made Dogma in 1999 as a lapsed Catholic searching for peace with my spiritual baggage. It was the biggest, riskiest, most ambitious movie I’d made at the time and the one I’m still asked about most. Religion is a sensitive subject, but so is humour, and Dogma aimed to bring both into the same space with heart, wit, and reverence for irreverence.

Revisiting it 25 years later, I am overwhelmed by the relevance of its questions and the courage of its cast. This remastered edition is not just a restoration, it’s a resurrection. For all the fans who couldn’t find it on streaming or had to pass around bootlegs to keep the movie alive, this is for you”.

Vertigo Releasing will re-release the film theatrically in the UK & Ireland in heavenly 4K from 7th November.
