Single, Out (season two) is now available on DVD in the United Kingdom and will arrive on DVD in the United States on August 6. Single, Out (season two) is also available to stream on Here TV.

Coming out was the easy bit for Adam (Will Hutchins) as we followed his first steps into the world of gay love, dating, sexual adventures and disappointments in the first season of Lee Galea’s Single, Out. Alongside his best mate, Marco (Ryan Stewart), Adam’s confidence grew during Season One as his relationship with the pansexual Josh (Adam Mountain) faltered, and a new love entered his world, the sensitive and caring Gabe (Jake Hyde). At the same time, Adam’s brother, Clay (Steven Christou) and his secret job as a male masseur led to problems and his eventual split with his long-term girlfriend, Kat, at what should have been a celebration of Adam’s photography at a public exhibition. But, while things fell apart for Clay, Adam’s world appeared to be on the up alongside Gabe.

As I sat down over Zoom with the uber-talented Lee Galea and the brilliant Will Hutchins to discuss Single, Out season one in August 2023, seasons two and three were already in the pipeline. Dropping us a hint of what was to come, Will said, “Life doesn’t really have a neat little bow-tie ending. It keeps unravelling as all the beauty and the mess spills out. These characters have still got a lot of growing to do.”

Now at college, studying photography, Adam spends every night at Gabe’s, who now shares a house with the always-naked chef Theo (Jack Brophy), who is about to engage in some sexual experimentation that goes horribly wrong (no spoilers), but he should stick to baking muffins! Anyway, back to our loved-up couple, Adam and Gabe, who can’t quite make things work in bed despite their love for one another. It’s as if they don’t quite click, even though they are both afraid to bring it up.

To add to their problems, Adam has been thinking about his ex, Josh, who is about to head off to a football college on the Gold Coast, and Adam arranges to meet Josh before he goes without Gabe’s consent. You would be right if you think all this sounds like the recipe for a relationship disaster. And what about Clay? I hear you ask; Clay has all but cut himself off from Adam, his mum and his friends since his split with Kat. His flat is a mess of empty bottles, beer cans and food wrappers, but a random meeting with a mysterious woman who enjoys spanking men is about to change his world forever.

The first season of Lee Galea’s Single, Out was an absolute blast as he introduced us to Adam, Clay, Gabe, Marco, Josh, and a host of colourful characters. Drawing inspiration from Queer as Folk and episodic web series like Hunting Season, while finding its own distinctive voice, Will Hutchins knocked the ball out of the park as the inquisitive, bubbly, yet uncertain Adam. Season two is equally as impressive, but for different reasons.

In Single, Out season two, Galea takes a more dramatic path as he explores Adam and Gabe’s relationship problems, the world of gay dating, changing friendships and a series of healing journeys. There are still moments of the perfectly timed comedy that helped season one shine, but as Will hinted back in 2023, life doesn’t have a neat little bow-tie ending, and season two carries the dramatic clout to prove it. Season two is about the moment we step from our teenage world into the often messy adult world of responsibility, relationships, and changing friendships. It’s a world that Adam, like most of us at his age, isn’t quite ready to embrace. But embrace it, he must. Season two is more mature, confident, and sexually charged than the first outing, and as it comes to a close, it’s clear that change is in the air for everyone in the Single, Out world as boys become men, hurts find healing and new doors open as old ones shut forever.

Single, Out season one is available to stream on Here TV and buy on DVD.
